D9S cannot do built-in online programming. D9S Pro and D9 Max can do. 

D9S and D9S Pro cannot do J2534 ecu programming, but the D9 MAX does.

In sum:

The Xtool D5 and D6 series share the same hardware but differ in their software configurations.

Xtool D5 series is not full system diagnostic scanner, it supports 5 system diagnoses only. D6 series is for full system.

Special functions D5>D5S=D6>D6S. D6S has more special functions (30).

Both D5 and D6 support CAN FD protocol, but don’t support DoIP protocol.

Both scanners don’t support active test (di-directional control) function.

How to Unlock VAG SFD Gateway with Xtool?

 How to use XTOOL diagnostic tools to unlock SFD security gateway in Volkswagen and Audi vehicles? When unlocked through xtool, any diagnostic tool can be used later with the car.

 

Here we will show how to unlock VAG SFD with Xtool manually.

 

Comaptible devices: Xtool D8 series, D9 series (D9SD9S Pro), A80/H6 series, XT80, XT90 etc.

NOTE: Xtool doesn’t provide SFD unlock token. Need to obtain unlock tokens from 3rd party. (Check here to get tokens)

 

Procedure:
First tap Auto Scan to identify vehicle information.

Xtool will prompt the current model requires SFD unlocking. Hit continue.

How to access Xtool SFD unlock menu:

Path 1: Single system entry
Go to Full system diagnostic-select a single system

After entering this mode, the xtool will automatically detect the vehicle brand and whether the system includes SFD protection.
Hit Manual unlock to submit the unlock request.

The xtool system generates a data package, that’s required to obtain unlock authorization.
There are three ways to access this unlock request data:

Generate QR code.
Scan the QR code to obtain Unlock Request Data.

Option 2:
Share the unlock request code via email.
The system will send the request data to your email address.

Tap a server link to open a webpage where you can submit the data and receive a token.

After submitting the request, you will need to retrieve the unlock token.
Manually input the token into the tool.

Xtool will automatically retrieve it from the server with one tap to complete token transfer.

Path 2: Auto scan path.

The system performs a full scan of all modules.
One completed it display which modules are protected by SFD, which ones are unlocked, and how much time remains before the unlock expires.

Select the module and go to the unlocking process.

Xtool Program VW Passat CC 2014 ID48 All Keys Lost

 In this guide, we’ll walk through the process of creating a dealer key using the XTOOL IP900/D9/X100 PAD3 etc and KC501 programmer. This method involves reading the ID48 chip from the vehicle’s EPROM (95C320) to extract the necessary data for programming a new key.

 

Tools Required

  1. XTOOL IP900/D9/A80/X100 PAD3 etc (with KC501 adapter).
  2. Soldering equipment (hot air station, flux, soldering iron).
  3. EPROM reader (compatible with 95C320 chip).
  4. New ID48 transponder chip (for dealer key).
  5. Magnifying tool (for identifying chip pins).

 

 

Step 1: Locate and Remove the EPROM Chip

  1. Access the ECU: Open the vehicle’s immobilizer unit to locate the 95C320 EPROM chip.
  2. Identify Pin 1: Look for the small white dot or marking on the chip (bottom left corner). This indicates Pin 1, crucial for proper alignment.
  3. Desolder the Chip:
    • Apply flux around the chip to ease removal.
    • Use a hot air station (set to ~400°C) to gently heat the chip’s edges until it lifts off.

Step 2: Read the EPROM Data

  1. Connect the Chip: Place the desoldered chip into the EPROM adapter, ensuring Pin 1 aligns correctly.
  2. Use XTOOL KC501:
    • Navigate to Special Functions > EPROM > ST 95C320.
    • Select “Read Data” to extract the immobilizer information.
    • Save the data.

Step 3: Extract the PIN Code

  1. Open XTOOL IP900:
    • Select IMMO Reset- Volkswagen > Passat CC (2008–2017).
    • Choose “Get CS Code” and load the saved EPROM file.
    • The tool will automatically display the 4-digit PIN code (required for key programming).

Step 4: Program the New Key

  1. Prepare the Key:
    • Place a new ID48 transponder in the key programming coil (connected to the KC501).
  2. Start Programming:
    • Select “Make Dealer Key” and enter the extracted PIN code.
    • Follow on-screen prompts to complete the process.
  3. Verification:
    • The tool will confirm “Success” once the key is programmed.

Final Steps

  • Reinstall the EPROM: Solder the chip back onto the ECU (if needed).
